When you buy something from a catalogue or online and it is delivered to your home address you want the item to arrive in perfect condition. It is quite surprising to hear how many items get damaged in the post due to inadequate packaging. There are packaging supplies that will ensure that your products arrive in stellar condition such as padded envelopes.
Prior to this type of packaging the standard way of packaging items that were to be delivered was to wrap them up in newspaper or protect the box with shredded paper, or even worse Styrofoam chips that would spill out all over the floor as soon as your package was opened.
In the 1960s the company known as Jiffy came up with the idea of this type of packaging. The first jiffy bag was constructed of paper on the outside, with thinner paper on the inside layer and shredded newspaper in-between the two which acted as a cushion. Jiffy was the first company to come up with this style of packaging and it was later advanced by Sealed Air who bought out the Jiffy company in 1987.
Bubble wrap is very popular; it is well known well wide and everyone loves to pop it; there have even been studies to prove that it is a great way of relieving stress. It was created in 1957 by two American Engineers. This product came about by accident as initially they were attempting to create a new style of textured wall paper that was easy to clean but it did not have the success that they were expecting and bubble wrap was born out of its failure. Air is an extremely protective property and when contained in the right space it can withstand enormous amounts of pressure. This is why bubble wrap is the most popular wrapping amongst manufacturers because of its ability to withstand pressure.
The jiffy bag was enhanced simply by removing the protective layer of shredded newspaper and adding a layer of bubble wrap. This enhancement has led to the popularity of this type of packaging.
Not only does the bubble wrap act as protection for the product but it also enhances the security of the object that is inside. It is very difficult to use your fingers to feel what is contained inside padded envelopes. The majority of businesses now use this type of packing and it has also become an important feature amongst office stationary.
