Fireplace Stove and the Safety Factor

A house with a fireplace symbolises comfort and warmth and creates a feeling of homecoming in you. If you have one in your home you are one of those lucky few as such houses with a fireplace are becoming lesser and lesser with the steady growth of apartments and flats. For the same reason a fireplace is something that you need to take care of in the right way. In case you are planning to get a new fireplace for your house a fireplace stove would be a very good and wise choice.

Installing a fireplace with stove is easy; however, it is equally important to maintain it well too. You have to make sure that there is no danger of fire from it. And for this you need to follow some safety instructions:

•Install the fireplace in a place that has less chances of a fire. In the crammed houses of today where kitchen and the living room are in the same hall you need to take a lot of precautions before installing the fireplace stove. It is much better to select a room that has a lot of space and where there are not much chances of smoke.

•Ensure that there are no flammable materials next to the fireplace. The presence of such items close by is enough for the fireplace stove to ignite and create a fire.

•Installing a door or some kind of a screen before the fire is helpful to prevent the embers from flying across the room and thus starting a fire.

•Follow the instructions provided by the makers of the fireplace while using it. If they have directed you to use a particular type of wood, stick to that. A wrong choice of wood can also harm your stove as well as ignite the fire stronger.

•Keep the fire in control. If needed, you could keep a measuring device like a magnetic thermometer attached to the chimney so that you could monitor the heat and thus keep it within control.

•Though you have taken care to prevent fire from breaking out it is even better to have any kind of fire safety device like an extinguisher close to the fireplace. This way even if there is a fire you could extinguish it in time and thus prevent it from spreading. Similar is the case of the alarm. Place it in the room where the fireplace has been installed in such a way that any unexpected fire is immediately detected.

•Make sure that everybody in the house are aware of how to manage the fireplace stove. And this includes the children too. They should be discouraged from lighting the fire or putting it out, however, they need to be trained to use the extinguishers in case there is a fire.

Fireplace stove definitely help in making your house warm and homely. It is in fact fun to sit beside the fireplace and read or just day dream. However, while thinking of the comfort and aesthetics in your house, try not be carried away by them and thus forget about the safety part.
