Working in the Restaurant Business

1 – The Chef

2 – The Host

They set the tone for the restaurant for the customer. The host takes reservations, seats customers, watches the floor and assist waiters. Hosts have to stay alert at all times to make sure everything is running smoothly. They have to balance out where the customers sit so waiters don't get swamped with work, handle complaints if they come up. Hosts can also be considered the face of the restaurant as they are the first and last person the customer sees.

3 – The Waiter

Waiters are the ones responsible for the dining experience. It is their job to make sure a customer's dining experience is a great one. Waiters are responsible for taking orders, bringing the customer's order to the table, processing payments and bringing correct change, waiting on multiple tables, rolling silverware and cleaning tables. Waiters need to be able to multitask because the environment can become fast paced. Waiters are also being expected to pitch in whenever additional services are needed. It is a very good idea for a waiter to be fun, outgoing and nice as a major part of the waiter's pay is tips received from customers. Many people seek this type of employment; restaurant work reaps them many tips that they can use for their daily needs.

4 – Restaurant Entertainer

Entertainers are responsible for generating restaurant employment. Jobs that entertain restaurant guests are in high demand. They are hired by restaurants to help keep guests happy. Restaurant entertainers have to be aware of their surroundings. In some cases, they can entertain tables waiting for food, guests waiting to be seated and help diffuse tense situations. Entertainers can help restaurants keep guests coming back with their routines and help keep restaurants running smoothly.
