The Mitsubishi Colt

Did you know that Mitsubishi has been producing the Colt since 1962? The Colt is a supermini car produced by the Japanese car manufacturer at its plants in Japan and the Netherlands. The first Colt produced was the Colt 600 back in 1962; it was one of the first small sporty cars produced by Mitsubishi. The latest incarnation of the Mitsubishi Colt in Somerset was introduced in 2002, still as a supermini, the European model is also still produced at the Mitsubishi plant in Netherlands. Another interesting fact – did you know the Colt is based on the same platform as the Smart Forfour? Some models even use the same engine! The new Colt comes with a choice of three petrol engines; there are no diesel engines on offer at the moment. The petrol engines are a 1.1 litre with 74 bhp, a 1.3 litre with 94 bhp and 1.5 litre turbo charged Ralliart version with 147 bhp.The new Colt comes with a choice of three petrol engines; there are no diesel engines on offer at the moment. The petrol engines are a 1.1 litre with 74 bhp, a 1.3 litre with 94 bhp and 1.5 litre turbo charged Ralliart version with 147 bhp. The turbo charged engine sounds meaty, 147 bhp in a small car will propel it from 0-62 mph in no time! In 2009 Mitsubishi showcased a low CO2 emitting model based on the Colt, called the Colt ClearTec. The greener model reduces CO2 emissions by 24g/km. Mitsubishi used ClearTec environmental technologies make a huge difference to CO2 emissions and increased MPG without having to compromise on performance. Technologies from this car have been used for the new electric car and other production models. At the moment Mitsubishi is putting a lot of emphasis on hybrid and plug in electric cars. It was one of the first manufacturers to produce a fully electric plug in car, in the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
