Finding The Right Blend

Getting a pipe tobacco sampler is a good way to discover new flavors and blends.  It is also a good way for those new to the smoker's life to become acquainted with the various flavors available and decide which ones they enjoy most.  Samplers can also help you to make distinctions among the various flavors since tobacco samplers are often assorted within the same family.  You may even find new ways to make custom blends to create a completely unique flavor all your own.

When you look for samplers, you may find them in many families including aromatic, non-aromatic and English.  Many of these kinds of tobacco are already blends, so you should look closely at what flavors are included and if possible the percentage of each flavor within the blend.  For instance, you can create the Anniversary blend burley, gold African Virginias and mild black Cavendish in chocolate and vanilla flavors.  You may also want to look at other features such as whether it is ideal for experienced smokers, beginners or all those in between.

Although you can find a readily made pipe tobacco sampler, you can also look for manufacturers that will allow you to build your own sampler so that you can mix and match families.  For instance, you can get an ounce of an aromatic butter berry blend that has as a smooth and mild finish with no bite and a subtle buttery vanilla taste with a berry flavor finish with an ounce of an English Chartwell blend that is extremely mild with a cherry and chocolate flavor and aroma.  You may also include a non-aromatic Hillman blend.

If you are less experienced with tobacco, you should look for ready-made samplers.  For instance, you can find an aromatic or English sampler with five blends each or even a combination of these blends in packs of ten and twenty.  You can get an aromatic sampler that includes Black Velvet, Cherry Vanilla, and Treasure Chest or Butter Rum, Cherry Ridge, and Vanilla Fudge.  You can also choose an English sampler that includes Balkan, Silverado and Traditional English or Arcadia, Bostonian English, and Rise of Dawn.

Of course, you can also choose to sample all these flavors and many others in non-aromatic blends when you look for a pipe tobacco sampler.  You may have to experiment a bit to truly find the right flavor, so it is best to start with small amounts.  The right blend will depend on not only the type of flavors you use but also the kind of pipe you smoke.  You need to have all the right materials in order to have the most pleasurable smoking experience possible, so you need to choose wisely.
