Jobs in the Restaurant Business

Want to work in the restaurant business? There are many forms of restaurant employment available. The chef, host, waiter and entertainment positions are available if you are interested in restaurant work. 1 – The Chef

Chefs are the ones responsible for food in a restaurant. Chefs are usually talented people who can prepare tasty delicious dishes and recipes. They have to be careful as they are also accountable for the cost of each item on the menu.  The order of supplies for the kitchen, hiring the kitchen help and training them is also on the list of duties of a chef. Apart from supervising the preparation of food, chefs take huge pride in presenting creative dishes. Being a chef is quite a stressful job and anyone aspiring to become a chef must be capable of handling the pressure. Chefs are one of the, highest occupations in restaurantsand are usually paid very well.

2 – The Host

The host or hostess is the person who greets people when they enter the restaurant. Thus, they should always look smart, greet customers with a smile and look after their hygiene. Since hostesses are the first thing a client sees in a restaurant, they are responsible for its reputation. The host is responsible for taking reservations, seating customers and assisting waiters if necessary. Hosts have to handle all customers' complaints with a smile and the saying the customer is always right could not hold more true in these situations.

3 – The Waiter

A waiter's main responsibility is to ensure the core communication between customers, the kitchen and the barmen. It is their duty to take the correct orders and be fair to clients on a first come first served basis. When, serving food, waiters should use all the etiquette they can muster and must always put themselves in the position of their customers. They process payment, set tables and follow up food orders. Multitasking in this environment is a must. On top of that, waiters usually close down the restaurant and sometimes have to clean their respective stations.

4 – The Restaurant Dishwasher

The restaurant dishwasher is the person responsible for keeping the kitchen area clean. Although it is considered to be one of the lowest jobs in catering, a dishwasher's role is very important: Firstly, he ensures compliance with health standards regulations by ensuring that the plates and cutlery are clean. Secondly, they ensure communication between the kitchen and the restaurant's clients by constantly providing a supply of clean dishes. Moreover, they make sure that the chef has all the clean dished he needs during a rush hour and thus his job can be stressful as well.
